Clear rules needed on deep sea research

The United Nations University - Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) warns that clear rules are needed on deep seabed bioprospecting. “’The unfettered and unregulated exploitation of international sea beds and the organisms living there could have serious long-term consequences for humankind,’ said UNU-IAS Director A.H. Zakri. ‘And for the private sector, uncertainty caused by the absence of clear, globally-agreed rules deters important research and investment decisions.’”
